Avis wanted her own puppy more than anything. This 13-year-old girl had wanted a friend that she could play with and care for all day long.
After Avis was diagnosed with leukemia in February, things have been harder for Avis; especially keeping in touch with friends. It had seemed like just another family gathering for Avis, as she entered the Cam-plex Park in Gillette. Little did she know, that this was the day her wish was going to come true.
Evelyn, Avis’s mother had conspired with volunteers for weeks and, when the big moment came, she snuck up behind her daughter and handed her an 8-week old Yorkshire puppy. Avis immediately fell in love. She had even had a name picked out before the puppy was in her arms; Hannah, after her favorite show, Hannah Montana few days after receiving the puppy, Avis was also treated to lunch and then a shopping spree at the Casper Petco. She arrived at the store in a red limo that was decorated with blue Make-A-Wish stars. Avis picked out a brown furry coat, a green and pink raincoat, and a few more shirts in “extra-extra small for an extra-extra special girl”. She also got Hannah a couple of tiny toys and treats.
Avis received everything she could need to take care of her puppy including: obedience classes, grooming services, supplies, and food for a year. In addition, Avis was also given a years worth of vet services, donated by the Animal Medical Center. These two girls are going to enjoy a long and beautiful friendship together.
