Keegan's wish brought to life his favorite characters in a way he never thought possible.
The first three years of Keegan`s life were often spent in a hospital as he confronted the need for a liver transplant. Surrounded by his parents and siblings, Keegan was given endless support and love. There was though, one other friend who remained constant through Keegan’s journey. Peter Pan. As a fan of the films and related cartoon series, Keegan’s mother shared her son’s desire to “meet and maybe sword fight his favorite characters”. And that is exactly what Keegan did.
Keegan’s wish was granted as he met Peter Pan; complete with a game of follow the leader on the deck of the pirate ship and even an encounter with the infamous Captain Hook. Remaining true to the theme of his wish, Keegan swam with a dolphin and her calf, enjoying an up close experience with the animals.
Recalling the joy she witnessed as her son lived out his one true wish, Keegan’s mother explained the sense of relief provided by the wish. “I know this wish experience had helped us all be able to relax and heal…for years we all felt the stress of worry about Keegan’s illness” speaking to the hardships faced by the family collectively.
Now, nearly a year past his liver transplant, who better to celebrate the end of one chapter in Keegan and his family’s life than his friend Peter Pan on the high seas. Bringing to life the adventure and characters that only previously existed on screen, Keegan wish is a reminder to all of the power in believing.
A special thank you to Rock Springs High School for raising the funding necessary to grant Keegan's wish. It is because of the support and generosity of their community, Make-A-Wish® Wyoming is able to grant the wishes of kids like Keegan statewide.
