Brooke loves to play volleyball, basketball, and softball. Her favorite food is spaghetti, and she loves ice cream. She seems like an average teenager, but Brooke is not like most teenagers. She is much, much stronger.
It is a strength that is apparent upon first meeting her, that along with her contagious smile. What you would never know is that she was diagnosed with ALL Leukemia and has been undergoing treatments for the last few years. Perhaps her fight with cancer is what has given her an inner strength most teenagers just do not have, or maybe it was a strength she was born with.
Several months ago, Make-A-Wish® Wyoming volunteers visited Brooke and her family. Brooke spoke of the things she loved, and her eyes lit up when she talked about Australia and seeing the Great Barrier Reef. There is only one way to truly see the Great Barrier Reef: scuba diving. No one was sure of whether or not the doctors would approve of her scuba diving, but Brooke was willing to find out.
At the end of March, Brooke packed her suitcase; her physician had approved her wish. Brooke spent the week with her family soaking up the sun in Australia. They fed kangaroos, went parasailing, played on the beach, and, of course, went scuba diving.
Brooke shared about her wish experience, “It was unbelievable to see that underwater world, I absolutely loved it. It was a wish come true, and I loved the whole experience. This trip is something none of us will ever forget.”
If it were not for the generous support of the community, we would not be able to grant wishes like Brooke’s. We cannot thank Jewelers for Children enough for continuing to grant wishes to Wyoming children year after year.
