Just four months after her sweet sixteenth, Allison was diagnosed with B-cell Lymphoma. Allison went from being an active teenager to actively fighting her cancer. She spent most of her summer in treatments and undergoing chemotherapy. It was not exactly the summer she had anticipated.
Make-A-Wish volunteers asked Allison one question, "What is your one true wish?" Allison knew exactly what she wanted. She wanted her summer back. Allison knew that Make-A-Wish probably did not have a time machine, but she had another idea: a vacation. All she wanted was to spend sometime in the sunshine with those who helped her get through the treatments, who sat in waiting rooms and by her hospital bed, who drove her back and forth from the hospital in Denver. Allison and her family flew to Jamaica in December - and it was a trip she'll never forget.
Allison's favorite part of the trip? Climbing the Duns River Falls. She also went zip-lining through the Jamaican jungle and swam with dolphins. 2012 will always be a memorable year for Allison. It was her sweet sixteenth, the year she was diagnosed with cancer, the year her one true wish was granted. Her future goals: 2013 will be the year she beats her cancer and 2014 will be the year she graduates high school alongside her friends and classmates. Best of luck to Allison and her future endeavors!
