Wish & Communications Coordinator

Our wish coordinator works primarily with our director of program services to fulfill wishes of Wyoming children with life-threatening medical conditions. Reporting to the director of program services, the wish coordinator performs the following functions, in brief:

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Processes new referrals, including speaking with referral sources and parents, completing initial paperwork, submitting medical eligibility forms, and database entry
  • Researches vendors and opportunities for in-kind contributions to support wish granting
  • Creates itineraries for travel wishes
  • Assists the director of program services in day-to-day wish planning, from booking flights and hotels to finding contractors for a playhouse wish to helping plan wish assists (wishes of children from other states who wish to visit Wyoming)
  • Updates wish database
  • Collaborates with wish, fundraising, and communications staff on various projects
  • Assists with medical outreach efforts
  • Collaborates in wish granting, fundraising, internal and external communications, community awareness, and medical outreach
  • Executes a comprehensive communications plan to tell the story of Make-A-Wish to a broad audience through various mediums including digital, print, and on-air
  • Composes press releases, editorials, speeches, interview questions, and other external communications pieces
  • Establishes strong relationships with medical professionals and referral sources to increase eligible referrals
  • Works closely with staff, board and volunteers to coordinate local media for all events and wish related activities
  • Builds and maintain strong relationships with media sources across the state
  • As the first point of contact, meet and greet all guests with positive and respectful demeanor at all times – in person, on the phone, and via e-mail
  • Other duties as assigned

 

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Positive attitude, compassionate with ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Well organized and detail oriented
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Customer-service oriented
  • High energy, enthusiastic, outgoing, and competent working with a diverse group of staff, wish families, media, volunteers, and donors
  • Mission focused with the desire to make a difference

 

PREFERRED SKILLS & EDUCATION

  • 1-3 years of office or customer service experience
  • Experience with Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge, or similar database platform a plus
  • Experience with Salesforce a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in public relations, communications, marketing, or related field preferable
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite a plus
  • Non-profit work experience

Administrative Assistant

Our administrative assistant works to support our day to day operations and to advance the chapter’s mission by performing tasks essential to the organization’s success – from data management and operations to referral processing and customer service. Reporting to the chapter CEO, the administrative assistant performs the following functions, in brief:

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create an environment of support enabling the entire team to be successful
  • Coordinate office practices, processes and systems
  • Maintain accurate and useful data using Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge platform
  • Process mail and answer phones
  • Execute relevant financial and office operations to ensure organizational integrity and stewardship, including preparation of bank deposits, adhering to internal control procedures, and coordination of receipting and acknowledgement process for all donations
  • Process accounts payable check requests
  • Create and maintain a warm, friendly, welcoming and efficient office environment
  • Assist the CEO with other administrative tasks as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Spring 2017 Development Internship

Description

The Development Internship will provide the opportunity to work collaboratively with Development and Communications staff of the Make-A-Wish® Wyoming office. The intern will participate in a variety of activities including writing, researching, event planning support and database entry. This internship offers hands-on experience. 

This is a part-time (15 hours/week) internship role at the Make-A-Wish Wyoming office in Casper, Wyoming, from January to June depending on applicant's availability. Students are responsible for their own transportation and housing expenses for the fall. 

Qualifications: Two internships available per semester. Applicants will be selected for an interview based on their cover letter and resume. Specific qualifications include: 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Digitally savvy - online/social/mobile
  • Self-starter with initiative  and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Proficiency in MS Suite and internet research tools
  • Ability to maintain discretion when dealing with confidential information
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop preferred, although not required
 Primary Tasks:
  • Assist with event and auction coordination activities
  • Produce donor acknowledgements and other stewardship pieces
  • Assist with donor mailings including printing, assembling and mailing packages
  • Conduct research and outreach related to major projects, campaigns or fundraising events
  • Write stories for website, donor acknowledgements and other marketing materials
  • Database entry and other database projects using The Raiser’s Edge platform
  • Other various department support as needed
  • Passion for learning more about the nonprofit sector and the Make-A-Wish Wyoming’s mission

Required Experience

The ideal intern will be a collegiate student working toward a Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or higher in business, nonprofit management, public policy or a related field. Knowledge of and experience with the Make-A-Wish mission and service population is preferred.

Spring 2017 Graphic Design Internship

Job Description

The Graphic Design Internship will provide the opportunity to work collaboratively with Development and Communications staff of the Make-A-Wish® Wyoming office. The intern will participate in a variety of design projects related to upcoming events and medical outreach efforts. Through this program, interns will be able to further develop their skills as a graphic designer while gaining experience in the non-profit sector. 

Qualifications: Two internships available per semester. Applicants will be selected for an interview based on their cover letter, resume and portfolio if available. Specific qualifications include:

  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop and InDesign 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Digitally savvy - online/social/mobile
  • Self-starter with initiative  and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Proficiency in MS Suite and internet research tools
  • Ability to maintain discretion when dealing with confidential information

Required Experience

The ideal intern will be a collegiate student working toward a Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in graphics arts or other related fields. Knowledge of and experience with the Make-A-Wish mission and service population is preferred.

Job Location

Understanding graphic design can be done remotely, there are no location restrictions on applicants. This part-time (15 hours/week) internship from January to June 2016 does require access to a computer and relevant design software.
